This family-run guesthouse has a wonderful and peaceful location just outside of the centre of Leh in India, far enough to feel a little like a mountain retreat but but close enough to walk to and from the town’s shops, restaurants and monasteries. The rooms are scrupulously clean and their decor is a lovely fusion of modern and traditional Ladakhi style, with comfortable beds; however the best feature must be the stunning views – and balcony suites with panorama windows are available. The proprietor Sonam (who designed the guesthouse) and his staff are warm and very helpful; no request seems too large. The guesthouse also offers simple and tasty local food, much of it organically grown in the guesthouse’s garden, and a knowledgable travel desk to assist with organising activities, treks and capable guides and drivers. A range of rooms are on offer: nine with individual bathrooms, four with a shared bath and a total of 30 beds. Travellers are sure to enjoy the opportunity to spend time in a traditional Ladakhi family home, when they can peel attention away from the breathtaking vistas.
