Best in the Alps for Apres-Ski

Ischgl, AustriaFor those of us who are more into the après ski than the actual skiing, a new poll issued by SnowTrex Ski Holidays rates the resorts of Ischgl, Sölden and St. Anton as the best in the Alps for off piste nightlife – and apparently the Germans are the wildest party people in town! Almost 3,000 winter sports fans participated in the questionnaire and Ischgl was the clear winner with approximately 42 percent of the vote.  In fact, with regards to après ski, Austria is home to the top five, with popular resorts Sölden, Mayrhofen and Saalbach-Hinterglemm ranking hot on the heels of Ischgl. Just how hard the group wants to party may play an important part in the resort snow-lovers choose to visit; many skiers and boarders (in fact almost 55%) will tell you that the activities off the piste are as important as what happens on the snow during the day! Everyone enjoys a warm gluwein after a hard day on the mountain, and some seem to love nothing more than a few rounds of Jaeger Bombs while dancing on the tables to Euro Pop. High in the Austrian Paznaun valley the fashionable alpine village of Ischgl also presents some of the best skiing in the country with an efficient high altitude lift system and beautiful scenery, so it seems that it’s an all round dream winter destination. And there are some fabulous online bargains to be had as this year’s season begins to draw to a close.
