TravelPledge – give something back

TravelPledge was set up last year to respond to the growing requests from travellers to be able to contribute financially to charitable social and environmental projects in the destinations they visit. The organisation believes in making it easy and meaningful for us to give back to the places we travel to. By working hand in hand with the travel industry and with local delivery partners, TravelPledge helps travellers to connect in more rewarding ways to these places. They support projects in a range of countries including Nepal, Romania, the UK and Ethiopia, with new projects in South America coming soon. A few things make TravelPledge unique: projects are not drip fed with donations as they come in, but the organisation achieves the full target before sending the funds, reducing possible leakage, costs associated with international money transfers and most importantly, significantly reducing the possibility of the donations being spent on alternative unplanned expenses. Their charitable status means that all donations can benefit from Gift Aid, wherever possible, TravelPledge does not retain any of the project donations or the gift aid, passing everything onto the beneficiaries in the destination. Recently another target fund was achieved, meaning that a sanitation block at the Emmanuel Care and Advice Centre, located in Kwanoxolo Township, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, can now be built.
